About Me

Never Take Your Healthy Teeth for Granted

When I was growing up, my mother took my three brothers and I to the dentist for check-ups every six months, and while my brothers all tended to need cavity fillings after the exams, I didn't get a cavity for almost my entire childhood! That led me to start feeling like my teeth were "invincible," and once I moved out of my parents house, I started skipping my trips to the dentist. I soon regretted it, because I developed a toothache that put me through the worst pain of my life. I went to visit the dentist, and he told me that not only did I need a root canal, but I also had two additional cavities to fill! I have since dedicated myself to good oral hygiene, and I decided to start a blog to share my oral health tips and encourage others to take care of their teeth!

3 Ways To Achieve Whiter Teeth

Have you tried numerous over-the-counter teeth whitening methods to no avail? Depending on the severity of the stains, there are a few dental techniques that can improve the color of your teeth. You might need to combine a few of the techniques before desirable results are achieved. A dentist can examine your teeth and recommend the best type of treatment. Below, you will find a list of useful techniques that a dentist can perform to get rid of stains on teeth.

1. Attach Porcelain Veneers

One of the fastest ways to improve stained teeth is via the porcelain veneer technique. You will literally be given a new enamel surface that is made out of porcelain. A dentist will simply file your teeth down to a certain extent, which is based on the width of the veneers that you choose. Some veneers are thicker than others. After your natural enamel has been filed down, your teeth will be buffed, cement will be applied, and the veneers will be attached to give you an appealing smile.

2. Deep Clean Your Teeth by Scaling Them

If you don't want to spend a lot of money on porcelain veneers, a dentist may be able to whiten your teeth by deep cleaning them. Deep cleaning is usually done via a technique that is called scaling. Your teeth will be thoroughly scraped with a tool to get rid of any plaque that is hard to remove with a toothbrush. A technique known as root planing is usually done along with scaling for an even deeper cleaning. Root planing involves the removal of plaque that is located on enamel that is under your gums, such as the roots of your teeth.

3. Whiten Your Teeth with Potent Fluoride

If you opt for scaling to be done, you might also want to get your teeth whitened with a fluoride that is a lot more potent that what is in the typical toothpaste product. Basically, the whitening agent will be applied to your teeth in the form of a gel. A laser may also be used during the process to activate the main ingredients in a timelier manner, which will lead to better whitening results. You can also opt for wearing a mouthpiece with a prescription fluoride that can whiten your teeth at home. Reserve a date for a dentist like Advanced Family Dental Care LLC to discuss the best whitening method for your stained teeth.
