Never Take Your Healthy Teeth for Granted

About Me

Never Take Your Healthy Teeth for Granted

When I was growing up, my mother took my three brothers and I to the dentist for check-ups every six months, and while my brothers all tended to need cavity fillings after the exams, I didn't get a cavity for almost my entire childhood! That led me to start feeling like my teeth were "invincible," and once I moved out of my parents house, I started skipping my trips to the dentist. I soon regretted it, because I developed a toothache that put me through the worst pain of my life. I went to visit the dentist, and he told me that not only did I need a root canal, but I also had two additional cavities to fill! I have since dedicated myself to good oral hygiene, and I decided to start a blog to share my oral health tips and encourage others to take care of their teeth!

Should You Go With Dentures Or Implants?

If you are missing one or more of your teeth then you may be thinking about getting partial dentures or dental implants. These are two of the most common options for replacing missing teeth. However, there are major differences between the two. Therefore, you want to put some thought into your options to ensure you end up with the ones for your situation.

What partial dentures offer

Partial dentures will cost less than dental implants, so this may make them a good choice if you are working with a limited budget. They are tooth replacement options that you will put in and take out. This is something you really need to consider. It means you will need to care for them separately from your natural teeth and there will be times you will have them out of your mouth, such as when you are taking care of your real teeth and when you are sleeping.

You'll also have to be more careful when you wear partial dentures. There are certain foods you shouldn't eat with them n, such as hard or sticky foods. They can get misshapen after a period of time and start to cause irritation to your mouth. When this happens, you will need to take them in to have them adjusted.

There are also benefits to partial dentures though. They are easier to get and you won't have the recovery period to go through that you will have when you get dental implants. They can also be used to replace one or more teeth when you aren't a good candidate for implants.

What dental implants offer

Dental implants give you a tooth replacement option that is permanent. You will care for them at the same time you care for your real teeth, and in the same manner as well. They are designed to look just like your other teeth and once you have them put in, no one will ever know that you were missing any teeth.

You will need to be a good candidate for implants before you will be approved for them. This means you have to have healthy gums and solid jaw bone structure. In some cases, the dentist can treat certain conditions to correct issues and make you a good candidate.

Dental implants generally require you to go in for three separate appointments. The first two appointments require your gum to be opened. A post first gets fused to your jawbone, then an attachment gets put on the end of the post which requires opening your gum a second time. The third appointment isn't as invasive, only involving screwing he crown onto the implant. Once you have the implant in and you have healed, you will be able to enjoy a natural looking and feeling replacement. To learn more, contact a dentist like Hartman Gary DDS MS Limited.
