Never Take Your Healthy Teeth for Granted

About Me

Never Take Your Healthy Teeth for Granted

When I was growing up, my mother took my three brothers and I to the dentist for check-ups every six months, and while my brothers all tended to need cavity fillings after the exams, I didn't get a cavity for almost my entire childhood! That led me to start feeling like my teeth were "invincible," and once I moved out of my parents house, I started skipping my trips to the dentist. I soon regretted it, because I developed a toothache that put me through the worst pain of my life. I went to visit the dentist, and he told me that not only did I need a root canal, but I also had two additional cavities to fill! I have since dedicated myself to good oral hygiene, and I decided to start a blog to share my oral health tips and encourage others to take care of their teeth!

Teeth Whitening Myths: Know The Facts

Would you like a dental procedure that makes your teeth white and bright? You should consider teeth whitening treatment. Sadly, there are numerous myths on teeth whitening. Below are some facts to debunk these popular myths.

Myth: Consuming Highly Acidic Fruits Help With Teeth Whitening

This myth argues that the acid contained in fruits will help bleach your natural teeth, turning them white. However, no research backs up this notion. On the contrary, this approach can cause more harm than good. Highly acidic contents can damage the tooth enamel. Therefore, seek professional whitening help from a dentist rather than relying on myths that cause more damage.

Myth: Professional and Self-Administered Teeth Whitening Treatments Offer the Same Level of Effectiveness

Teeth whitening treatments sold in cosmetic shops and pharmacies are different from professional products. Dentists use stronger whitening treatments that contain more active ingredients that are more effective in whitening teeth.

Additionally, dentists use highly concentrated treatments since they have received professional training. Most over-the-counter treatments are inferior and ineffective compared to professional products.

Myth: Always Go for a Highly Concentrated Whitening Gel Since It's More Effective

How often do you ask for the more concentrated gel when buying whitening treatments in pharmacies or cosmetic stores? While a gel with more substantial concentrations can speed up the process compared to less concentrated ones, the effects are often short-lived.

Often, highly concentrated treatments cause high sensitivity and pain. Remember, each tooth may react differently to the bleaching agent. There is always a risk of an uneven application when doing it by yourself. Therefore, it could lead to uneven bleaching results.

Myth: Whitening Isn't an Ideal Option for Anyone With Sensitive Teeth

Having sensitive teeth shouldn't hinder you from seeking teeth whitening services. However, you should discuss your tooth sensitivity issues with your dentist. Once aware, they can choose mild products for you.

Despite your tooth sensitivity, a professional dentist will ensure the procedure is comfortable and painless. Besides, there are additional measures a dentist can take to reduce your sensitivity during the procedure. So, rather than opting out of the procedure, all you need to do is mention your sensitivity problem.

Take Away

There are many myths surrounding teeth whitening which need to be debunked. Always consult a professional dentist to know the facts before investing in no-guarantee whitening creams or relying on more destructive methods.
